Discord server rules template: pick your rules and copy them (free)
Choose the kind of server you run, tick or untick from 22 ready-made rules and copy the finished message into your #rules channel. The text is formatted for Discord (bold titles, numbered) and split into several messages if it goes over Discord's 2000-character limit. Nothing is uploaded: it all runs in your browser.
Formwell runs staff applications, whitelist requests and ban appeals inside Discord: members click Apply, answer in a pop-up, and your staff press Accept or Deny in a review channel; Accept gives the role and DMs the member. Free: 3 forms, 5 questions each, unlimited submissions.

Where to put the rules
Post them in a read-only #rules channel that new members see first. In Server Settings, turn on Community and set that channel as the rules channel to make Discord's rules screening show it to new members. Pin nothing else there, so the rules stay the first thing people read.
What makes a rule set work
- Short. Eight to twelve rules get read; thirty do not. Untick what you will not enforce.
- Enforceable. Every rule should be one a moderator can point to when acting. Vague rules cause arguments.
- Consequences stated. The last line says what happens when rules are broken (warning, mute, kick, ban).
- Matched to the server. A Minecraft SMP needs a griefing rule; an art server needs a credit rule. Pick the server type above for those.
The 2000-character limit
A Discord message holds at most 2000 characters (Nitro raises it for the sender, not for what everyone sees in bots). This page splits at rule boundaries so no rule is cut in half: paste the messages in order.
Rules are not enforcement
Rules alone do not keep a server clean. Pair them with Discord's AutoMod, a moderator team you trust and a clear way to join it. If you recruit staff or screen new members, see the Discord staff application template.
